From March 1 are changing some provisions related to the work of foreigners

Foreign nationals pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees, as well as those who have completed their studies in Lithuania, possess the right to work in the Republic of Lithuania throughout the duration of their temporary residence permit, free from the usual 20-hour per week restriction.

Upon obtaining a temporary residence permit following their studies in Lithuania, foreign nationals not only have the liberty to seek employment but can also immediately begin working. In such cases, there’s no requirement to obtain an Employment Service decision validating that their work aligns with the nation’s labor market needs.

Similarly, foreign nationals applying for a temporary residence permit, particularly the “blue card” for highly skilled employees, are entitled to commence work in a highly qualified position either upon submitting their application to the Migration Department or upon receiving approval from the Employment Service, if necessary.

Regarding individuals arriving to work as trainees or interns, their temporary residence permit is granted following a decision from the Employment Service confirming their compliance with the Republic of Lithuania’s labor market needs, bypassing the need for a separate work permit.

Should a foreign national receive a work permit from the Employment Service, they may apply for a national visa solely through the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania or an authorized external service provider.
