After completing their studies, foreigners will be able to start working
Department of Migration informs that as of March 1, 2021, following the amendments to the Law of the Republic of Lithuania “On the Legal Status of Foreigners,” a foreigner holding a temporary residence permit issued upon completion of studies in Lithuania will not only be able to seek employment but also start working or engage in independent activities. In this case, the foreigner is exempted from the obligation to obtain a decision from the Employment Service confirming that their work meets the needs of the Lithuanian labor market. Additionally, the foreigner will have more time to submit an application for a temporary residence permit – they will be able to do so not within 3 months but within 1 year from the date of acquisition of higher education qualification.
As of March 1, doctoral students, as well as foreigners studying in master’s programs and those who have completed their studies and obtained a temporary residence permit for job search, will be able to work without the restriction of 20 hours per week.
