Employers responsible to verify the authenticity of the documents provided by the employed foreigners

Foreigners occasionally resort to submitting falsified documents to obtain temporary residence permits or national visas in Lithuania. When the Migration Department identifies discrepancies in the submitted documents, they reject the application for a national visa or temporary residence permit. If such a document has already been issued, it is promptly revoked.

In cases where a foreigner’s application for a temporary residence permit is declined due to fraudulent documentation, they are barred from reapplying for a residence permit for at least one year from the date of the decision. Moreover, individuals who dishonestly manipulate migration procedures to obtain a national visa or temporary residence permit may face entry bans into the Republic of Lithuania and the Schengen area, extending up to 5 years.

For instance, employers can conduct checks to confirm the authenticity of documents certifying the foreigner’s qualifications, such as verifying if the educational institution specified in the document issued by a foreign country is legitimate, by consulting publicly available registers or databases.
