New rules for granting temporary residence permits to citizens of Australia, Japan, USA, Canada, New Zealand and South Korea

On September 1, 2019, amendments to the Law on the Legal Status of Aliens entered into force. Citizens of Australia, Japan, the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and South Korea who work, create, or engage in other significant activities in the Republic of Lithuania will be issued a temporary residence permit.

Citizens of these countries will be able to obtain a residence permit in the Republic of Lithuania if:

1) will work under an employment contract or have a mandatory job offer;

2) will be a participant or head of a private legal entity registered in the Register of Legal Entities and carrying out activities specified in the charter, and the purpose of his arrival will be to work in this company;

3) engage in other legal activities, including independent entrepreneurial activity, as defined in the Law on Income Tax on the Population of the Republic of Lithuania.

Citizens of Australia, Japan, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Korea will be able to immediately come with their family.

Citizens of these countries and their families will be able to apply for a temporary residence permit in any of the territorial departments of the Department of Migration serving foreigners, regardless of their intended place of residence. They will also receive a temporary residence permit after 3 months (from the date of application) or 45 days (with an urgent request). A temporary residence permit for these foreigners and their families will be issued for three years.
