Cooperation between Lithuania and Belarus in transportation and logistics

Lithuania and Belarus see a positive trend in the development of transport and logistics. Cooperation between them provides for close cooperation in the capital, the creation of joint companies to provide services throughout Europe and entering the Eurasian market. “Our countries have unique opportunities to use their geographical competitive advantages for the further capitalization of the transport and logistics sector,” the Belarusian prime minister said.

According to Belarusian statistics, in 2012, 20% of transport organizations in Belarus worked with losses (Source: Department of Statistics of the Republic of Belarus). This sphere is highly profitable, but because of the difficulties with transport declarations, permits, borders between the CIS countries and the countries of the European Union, these companies can not operate at full capacity. Therefore, many Belarusian entrepreneurs enter the neighboring market in Lithuania, where the transport sector is rapidly developing and has much more opportunities than in Belarus.

Advantages of Lithuania in transport and logistics:

Access to the entire European market with a population of 500 million residents;

International transport highways “North – South”, “West East”;

Transportation of goods between the Black and Baltic Seas on the route Klaipeda-Minsk-Ilyichevsk by the combined “Viking” train ;

A large non-freezing sea port in Klaipeda (today part of Belarusian cargo in the port is 20%);

Good air connection between Lithuania and the rest of Europe, airports in Klaipeda, Kaunas, Vilnius.
